Anooj Vadodkar Devlog

Anooj Vadodkar, Devlog for Spectra

What I worked on: Music, (Hypothetical) minigame design, writing for the Visiting Relative Character named Isaac.

What I hoped to get out of this jam: When signing up and agreeing to work on the music, I had hoped to, beyond just having some time to write a character for a more serious endeavor, get experience using Digital Audio Workshops such as fruity loops. I’ve played guitar for a long period of my life and have a love for listening to video game music, so creating it was the next obvious step for me.

Log: I have gained a new respect for audio engineers and those writing music in games. My biggest problem wasn’t a lack of software or the software not being powerful enough, it came down to me not being experienced with the software at all along with not feeling like the music was adequate. Whether that’s a confidence issue or the music genuinely not being up to par remains to be seen, but I did enjoy the learning aspect. It’s merely in the execution that I feel as though I faltered. For my next game jam, I’d definitely like to focus more on the writing and programming side, as those are aspects that I feel as though I’m stronger in. As well, it was unfortunate that we weren’t actually able to implement minigames on time, but I did enjoy thinking out what would work well for the characters. Writing Isaac was my favorite part, as it’s been a while since I’ve been able to write for something other than essays. Overall, I had a lot of fun when the music felt like it was right!
