v0.2.0 - Put Your 🐸 On My Shoulder

This release focused on implementing and designing around our new mechanics: Tongue Swinging and Wall Jumping, as well as improving the gameplay experience overall. There have been a whopping 52 commits since last week, so let's go over some changes:

  • Tongue Swinging is now limited to specific surfaces.
  • The player now slides down walls.
    • When sliding down a wall, the player can perform a wall jump.
  • The player is no longer interrupted when jumping on a rotating object until their surface is considered a ceiling.
  • Added a proper Buck-Thoo model. No, they're not actually a frog!
  • Added WIP cutscene actors and props in-level.
  • Fixed a lot of bugs with tongue swinging.
  • Added a more substantial and interactive tutorial.
  • "Stars" no longer look like collectables.
  • Added "ledge grabbing," which should improve the feeling of barely missing jumps.
  • Added areas where the camera is positioned automatically to reduce clunkiness from the manual camera.
  • Many other bug fixes and game feel improvements.

Known Issues:

  • Sometimes, the player will ledge-grab at inappropriate times, resulting in the player becoming stuck. Re-load the game to get unstuck, or open the console ("~" key) and issue the command `fly()`. Fly to a safe location, issue `teleport(); fly()`, then close the console.
  • The level geometry has changed, so if you try to load your previous save, you may spawn in a weird location and be unable to fix it. Please start a new game and overwrite this save.

This week, we're mostly looking for feedback on how Tongue Swinging, Wall Jumping, Ledge Grabbing, and the Active Camera Areas feel. Thanks for reading, and we're looking forward to hearing your feedback!
